The Ultimate Saving

I find great comfort in knowing that if I were to die today, I would spend eternity in heaven. At the age of 19, I came to know Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son, as my Lord and Saviour. I remember the night that it happened like it was yesterday. I became so overwhelmed with discomfort, sadness, regret, woe, and then finally an ultimate repentance. I had placed my knees that night on my beige carpet in the corner of my room as a sinner on her way to Hell, yet stood up as a sinner on her way to Heaven. It has been an amazing journey since that night that I prayed, asking God to forgive me of all my sins, to save me from the lake of fire and brimstone, and I want you to experience that journey as well.

As you sit here looking at the computer screen, ask yourself this question: If I were to die today, would I go to heaven? This is a question that so often is brushed aside as we really don't like to think about death, but it is probably one of the most important questions you will ever be faced with. Did you know that 87% of people die unexpectedly?? I was pretty shocked to hear that statistic too, but its true. At any moment, a person could have an aneurysm, get into a car accident, die in their sleep, or have a heart attack. We just don't know what tomorrow brings. This is why this is the most important question of your life.

So let's think about the question again: If I were to die today, would I go to heaven? You are probably thinking : "Well yeah, I am a good person." or " Well why wouldn't I? I do my best to live my life and I think God sees that." The Bible tells us in Romans 3:10 that "There is none righteous, no not one." So have you ever known anyone that is perfect? I sure haven't met him or her. I am not perfect, my son is not perfect, no one is perfect.

Let's take a little test. Answer these questions honestly and truthfully as God will be watching.

--- Have you ever told a lie?
--- Have you ever used the Lord's name in vain?
--- Have you ever looked upon a man or woman with lust in your heart?
--- Have you ever stolen anything?

These are 4 of the 10 Commandments, also known as God's Law, that God has given us.  The Bible tells us in Romans 3:19,20: "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." So if you answered yes to any of the above questions, you have established that you are a sinner and will be guilty before a Holy God on Judgment Day.

The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". This means that our sin separates us from God. The Bible also tells us in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death:". This means that there is a penalty for the sin that we have committed and this penalty is described as death. We all know that we are going to die someday, but that is not the death that the Bible is talking about. In Revelation 21:8 the Bible tells us : "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. If you answered "Yes" to ever telling a lie, this verse is telling us that we are deserving of this second death in the lake of fire and brimstone just for telling a lie - it is that serious. Do you know where this place is? Hell. I know that is very hard to read as I remember hearing that and thought that it couldn't be true. Me? Going to Hell? No! But it was true. My sin had made me guilty and I deserved to go to Hell because of it.

BUT there is such great news ahead! The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." What this means is that God loves YOU so much, that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for you. Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life (not one sin!), and then He died on the cross, and arose 3 days later conquering death and hell so that YOU may have eternal life. If I had to send my son to die so that others may live, I don't think I could do it. The pain and heartache would be too much to bare. But God did it - He sacrificed His Son so that we could have eternal life. His death covers our sin. The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23 "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". There is nothing that you can do that will get you to Heaven - it is only through Jesus Christ. God has given us this free gift of eternal life, it is just up to us to call on Christ and trust only in Him as our Saviour from Hell.

The Bible tells us in Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". Well saved from what? Hell. Remember our sin brings us to hell, but Jesus' death and resurrection covers our sin. The Bible tells us that all we have to do is call upon the name of the Lord and we shall be saved! In Romans 10:9,10, the Bible says "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. All that God asks from us is to trust in His Son and ask Him to save us. If you would like to receive Jesus as your Saviour then sincerely tell Jesus something like this:

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. If I died today, I would be deserving of Hell. I know that you died for me on the cross and shed your blood to cover my sins. I now by faith trust you and you alone as my Saviour. Thank you for your gift of salvation. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
